Join us for a panel discussion about book challenges, attempts to ban and restrict books at public and school libraries, and the climate surrounding the right to read and intellectual freedom. The panel will be moderated by Scott Summers, assistant director of the Media and Education Technology Resource Center (METRC) in the College of Education at NC State. Panelists will include: 

  • Representative Julie von Haefen, 36th District, North Carolina House of Representatives 
  • Julie Stivers, school librarian; School Library Journal's 2023 School Librarian of the Year
  • April Dawkins, assistant professor, Department of Information, Library and Research Sciences, School of Education, UNC Greensboro
  • Lynn Edmonds, District 5 representative, Wake County Board of Education; member-at-large, Wake County Library Commission

This program is a collaboration between METRC and NC State University Libraries.
