Join the Genetics and Genomics Academy for a special retirement symposium for Bruce Weir, a long-time faculty member and former director of the Bioinformatics Research Center at NC State. This symposium, recognizing Weir’s contributions to statistical genetics and bioinformatics at NC State, will feature presentations from current faculty, student talks and stories from past students. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.

Weir completed his Ph.D. in statistics at NC State under the direction of Clark Cockerham in 1968. Weir returned to NC State as a statistics faculty member in 1976 and remained at NC State until becoming chair of biostatistics at the University of Washington in 2006. He retired from UW in 2023. At NC State, Weir was the driving force behind bioinformatics development. He was the founding director of the Bioinformatics Graduate Program and the Bioinformatics Research Center.

You can join the symposium in person at Thomas Hall in the Stephens Room (3503) or virtually via Zoom. Click the "Join Stream" link below to attend virtually.
