Edgar Harrell is an actuarial manager for Builders Mutual Insurance Company. Harrell earned bachelor's degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in mathematics, and communication and media studies and a minor in music. 

As the actuarial manager, Harrell and his team use historical data and actuarial techniques to predict the future cost of insurance rates and claims the company may payout. Harrell's team focuses on insurance products for the construction industry by supporting workers' compensation, auto, property and general liability policies for builders in the Southeast.

Harrell will discuss his career as a part of Career Conversations. The 30- to 45-minute discussions are hosted by the Exploratory Studies program and allow students to connect with people working in a variety of industries to learn about their current occupational and professional experiences.
