Arjumand Alvi grew up in Houston, Texas, the city that goes by the nickname Space City, and is Miss Space City International 2022. She is a science, technology, engineering, arts and math advocate, and her platform, Everyone Can Touch the Stars, empowers the next generation of explorers to trailblaze creative careers.

When Alvi is not wearing her sash and crown, she is an engineer at NASA's Johnson Space Center. Alvi earned her Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and her Master of Science degree in systems engineering from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Last year, Alvi, a moon researcher, presented her moon research at the International Astronautical Congress in Dubai. She dreams of becoming the first woman to walk on the moon.

Alvi will be a guest speaker for Career Conversations. The 30- to 45-minute discussions are hosted by the Exploratory Studies program and allow students to connect with people working in a variety of industries to learn about their current occupational and professional experiences.
