The Classics Club invites you to attend a performance by Chicago-based singer-songwriter Joe Goodkin on Thursday, April 9, at 7:45 p.m. at Talley Student Union. Goodkin, who earned a Bachelor's of Arts in Classics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, created The Blues of Achilles, a musical adaptation of The Iliad, an epic poem by Greek poet Homer. The Blues of Achilles is a set of 17 original songs. It tells the story of The Iliad through the eyes of its characters: Achilles, Patroclus, Briseis, Helen, Priam and more. The performance evokes the original oral tradition of epic bards that stretches back millennia and frames the poem musically and narratively for modern audiences.

The performance will conclude at 9 p.m. A Q&A session will follow. Registration is required to attend.
