Take a journey from Earth to deep space as we explore the search for life beyond our world. Using fly-through-the-universe software called OpenSpace, astrophysicist Rachel Smith will discuss the scientific basis for the search for extraterrestrial life within our own solar system and beyond, as we consider the exoplanets and search for extraterrestrial intelligence. Smith will also include some of her recent research on forming stars with connections to solar system origins and describe the many data sets and tools that power OpenSpace as a premier tool for visualizing and learning about the universe with public, research and academic audiences.

Smith's presentation is part of NC State Libraries' Coffee and Viz series. The series allows researchers to share their visualization work and discuss topics of interest.
