Whether it's an intense shot of espresso, a smooth latte or just a regular cup of joe, coffee beverages are some of the most popular on the planet.  The goal of this presentation is to show the beauty of the data associated with coffee flavor and quality.  We will start with the constellation of flavors, both good and bad, found on coffee flavor wheels.  We move on to spider plots that describe the qualities of individual coffees from around the world, get hyperspectral for a bit and then finish with micrographs showing the complex architecture of the beans that help many of us wake up and get moving every morning.

After the short talk, we will walk upstairs to the fifth-floor terrace for a demonstration of coffee roasting and the opportunity to taste different coffee roasts! Please bring your own mug to increase the sustainability of this event.

This presentation is part of the Coffee and Viz series. NC State researchers share their visualization work and discuss topics of interest.
