Contemporary Japanese Art: A Curator’s Perspective

Janice Katz, associate curator of Japanese art at the Art Institute of Chicago, will provide an overview of contemporary Japanese art at that museum — its history, its presence in the galleries now and its potential future. She will cover works of art in a range of media but focus mostly on woodblock prints and ceramics, which are those areas traditionally collected by the museum since the 1950s. She will then layout ideas for areas of future growth such as video, installations and beyond.
