The AI Hot Topics monthly networking series is a dynamic forum designed to foster dialogue and collaboration in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence. Whether you’re a seasoned AI practitioner, a curious scholar or simply interested in the transformative potential of AI, this series offers a unique opportunity to connect with leading experts and contribute to meaningful discussions.

The topic for the May 12 session will be Smart Maps, Smarter AI: Who’s Leading? The session will investigate how advances in AI are reshaping control, trust and decision-making across interdisciplinary geospatial technologies. By leveraging location-based data, we can better understand where events occur and why they happen. This raises important questions about how we interpret insights and responsibly apply them in real-world contexts.

  • Ishita Pai Raikar, an AI engineer and researcher, will moderate the session. The panelists will be:
  • Eric Money, director of education at the Center for Geospatial Analytics and associate teaching professor at NC State
  • Louise Lindegaard, data scientist at First Third Bank
  • James Alberque, a GIS and emerging technology manager for the city of Raleigh
