While there has been increasing attention in the mainstream media about LGBTQ issues, the issues faced by members of the transgender community have been noticeably absent from the national conversation. According to research done by the Williams Institute, 41% of transgender people attempt suicide at some point in their lives, and the murder of trans people is at an all-time high. This two-hour workshop is open to NC State undergraduates, graduate students, staff, faculty, alumni and interested local community members. The workshop explores the cultural values that contribute to a climate of interpersonal, social and institutional discrimination, oppression and violence against the trans community.
