https://datascienceacademy.ncsu.edu/data-science-and-ai-week-nc-state/Nicholas J. Seewald, an assistant professor in the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, will give a talk titled, “Design Thinking for Policy Evaluation: The Policy Trial Emulation Framework.”
The talk will explore how target trial emulation can be used for policy evaluation and to address challenges unique to that context. Seewald will discuss how using the policy trial emulation framework to conduct and report on research design and methods supports transparent assessment of threats to causal inference in non-experimental studies intended to assess the effect of a health policy on clinical or population health outcomes. He will show how careful design thinking lays a foundation for cutting-edge statistical tools to enable rigorous, high-quality policy evaluation studies, with application to a study of the effects of state medical cannabis laws on opioid prescribing for chronic noncancer pain.
This event is part of Data Science and AI Week @ NC State. Registration is not required.
