Interested in pursuing doctoral studies in Design? Join us for a virtual open house on November 12 from 1:30-2:30 pm EST!
Be part of a premier group of graduate students preparing to shape the world by addressing the complex challenges facing society through sustainable, humane, healthy and innovative design practice and research.
NC State Design Doctoral Programs engage in transdisciplinary research education that nurtures design scholars and cultivates thought leaders who can provide intellectual direction within design disciplines.
The College of Design offers two distinct doctoral programs: the Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) and the DDes (Doctor of Design).
The PhD in Design program is an on-campus program intended for students who seek to deepen their knowledge of both theory and research, that values a broad range of research interests that aim to improve the human condition.
The Doctor of Design program is a distance education program for established practicing professionals working with creative and case-based research problems, who intend to apply the results of their studies to design practice.
The doctoral programs operate within an ecosystem that spans the college's four units: Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning; the School of Architecture; Media Arts, Design & Technology; and the Department of Graphic Design and Industrial Design. These departments create a dynamic sandbox for a design continuum that engages interdisciplinary perspectives.
Our brief information session will provide an overview of each program with plenty of time for joint Q&A. Those interested should register to receive more information and the Zoom link for our virtual session. Contact Ashley Pearson (alwhale2@ncsu.edu) for more information.
