Join Elevating Qualitative Research, or EQUAL, for a lecture by Ashley Mears, chair of cultural sociology and new media at the University of Amsterdam. Mears' lecture is titled "Learning to Like the Likes and the Hate: The Labor of Getting Internet Famous." Attendees will learn about recent ethnographic research on social media content creators and influencers. Mears will focus on the digital labor of influencers, the experience of internet fame, the transition from mass media “reputation economy” to social media “attention economy” and the idea of the gamification of work.

The lecture sponsors are the NC State Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
