 Dybbuk. Following the screening of the film\, Eliza Rose\, a professor in 
 the Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literature\, will lead
  a discussion about the film. Rose's research focuses on the visual cultur
 es and literature of Poland and Eastern Europe. \n\nThe Dybbuk is a mystic
 al tale of star-crossed lovers and supernatural possession. Two friends te
 mpt fate by betrothing their unborn children. Years later\, when the pledg
 e is broken and the couple’s love is thwarted\, Channon turns to the dan
 gerous power of the Kabbalah to win back his love. Made in Poland on the e
 ve of World War II in a stylized expressionistic manner that has been call
 ed “Hasidic Gothic\,” The Dybbuk\, based on S. Ansky’s play\, is one
  of the finest films ever produced in the Yiddish language.
