The Red Balloon, an Academy Award-winning 1956 French film short written and directed by Albert Lamorisse, captures the adventures of a boy who befriends a seemingly sentient red balloon and follows it through the streets of Paris. Shot in beautifully muted Technicolor, this beguiling allegory of innocence and transcendence has inspired generations of viewers to let their imaginations take flight. The Gregg Museum of Art & Design is presenting the film in conjunction with its current exhibition, BLOW UP II: Inflatable Contemporary Art. You can see the exhibition at the museum through Jan. 27.
