About this Event
2810 Cates Ave., Raleigh, NC 27606
Join the African American Cultural Center for the opening reception of Folk Nouveau, an exhibition that will take you on a journey in understanding and exploring folktales and folklores developed by Black folk through an innovative lens. This exhibition will focus on the way myth and magic within the context of storytelling is an act of resistance and existence for Black communities. Black folks have been telling stories for years, but the myths and magic within Black storytelling are often overlooked by stories of pain and struggle. This exhibition will tell a new story: a story centered around the power we have as a community to world build, radically dream and imagine and engage in magical realism through art.
