Species distribution models have traditionally used climatic data as predictors of habitat suitability for the target species. In this free, hands-on geospaital studio, we will explore the use of satellite data to derive relevant predictors. Participants will:

  • Perform satellite data processing, from download to analysis, using open-source GRASS GIS software functionality.
  • Read predictors within R statistical software to perform SDM and visualize and analyze results.
  • Write the output distribution maps back into GRASS GIS.

Visiting scholar Verónica Andreo, a biologist, researcher, lecturer, developer and chair of the GRASS GIS project steering committee, will lead this session.
