The Global Change Fellows of the Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center have congregated a multidisciplinary panel to address how COVID-19 has affected disaster recovery and community resilience strategies. The seminar will be structured as a panel discussion among scientists and professionals from the Eastern and Western regions of the United States and the Caribbean. They will bring their expertise and experience as they answer questions provided by the fellows and audience members. Our panelists will explore the changes and adjustments to disaster recovery due to COVID-19 and discuss the implications for future actions on disaster recovery and community resilience. The panelists are:

  • Pablo Méndez Lázaro, associate professor in the Department of Environmental Health at the University of Puerto Rico and Graduate School of Public Health. He has conducted research addressing climate and weather extreme events impacts on public health and resilience.
  • Andy Fox, a professor and community-engaged faculty fellow in the Center for Geospatial Analytics at NC State. Additionally, he is a licensed landscape architect and a founding co-director of the Coastal Dynamics Design Lab.
  • Kristin Ludwig, a staff scientist in the U. S. Geological Survey Natural Hazards Mission Area. She collaborates with the Department of the Interior Strategic Sciences Group, which brings together a multidisciplinary task force to support decision making during environmental crises.
