Join artist Maya Freelon for an immersive gallery tour of Grounded, exploring the evolution of her work, creative practice, and the Freelon lineage and legacy. Through conversation, "slow looking", gentle movement, awareness, and discovery, participants will engage with the textures, colors, materials, and memories embedded in Freelon’s work.

The tour will include artwork by Maya Freelon, alongside photographs by her late father, Phil Freelon — NC State Design School alum and architect of the renovated Gregg Museum of Art & Design — and her great-grandfather, Allan Freelon, Sr., a pioneer African American Impressionist painter active during the Harlem Renaissance.

The exhibition space welcomes the practice of grounding, as Maya guides visitors through mindful moments that evoke the senses and invite reflection on ancestry, healing, joy, resilience, and connection. Participants will leave with grounding practices they can carry beyond the museum, using mindfulness as a tool for Grounding wherever they go.

This event is free but registration is required.
