Alexis Lawson is a poet, storyteller, daydreamer and the author of the poetry collection The Beauty in My Bare Bones. Lawson earned a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing at Appalachian State University. She aspires to give her readers the key to hundreds of worlds within a lifetime and to give people who feel forgotten, overlooked and not included in literature a place to call their own. She is dedicated to telling stories that motivate readers to live up to the characters they read about. Lawson posts excerpts of her poems, short stories and daily writing life on her social media, @HerBlackHand. Lawson's work has appeared in the Charlotte Observer, Midnight and Indigo, MadameNoire and Business Insider. More of her work will appear in a forthcoming McGraw Hill textbook.
