Identity and Privilege: Recognizing and Celebrating Difference is the first of three workshops in the Fostering Student Wellness and Belonging Workshop Series. This workshop encourages participants to consider social roles, privileged groups and core values as they deeply explore their personal identities and learn more about their fellow participants. Even with the creation of diversity, equity and inclusion programs at many U.S. colleges and universities, many are unaware or in denial about the power imbalances in our society. This part of the workshop will allow students to explore their own identities and power through reflective writing and discussion. This activity will provide the opportunity for greater understanding and trust between participants and nuanced conversations about systemic oppression.
