Community-Led Relocation in an Era of Climate Change: Lessons from 20 Years of Research and Practices
Gavin Smith, Ph.D., FAICP, is a professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning at North Carolina State University. His teaching and research focus on hazard mitigation, disaster recovery, and climate change adaptation, and the integration of research and practice through deep community engagement. Dr. Smith's work over the last several years emphasizes topics tied to community-led relocation, to include co-authoring a recently published National Academies of Science report focused on the Gulf Coast, a comparative study of housing acquisition in the US and New Zealand, and the Coastal Hazards Overlay District Guide.
