The Virtual Forest: Immersive Landscapes, Carbon, and Climate Change
Aidan Ackerman is an Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York. He is the former Director of Digital Media and Landscape Architecture Faculty at Boston Architectural College. He received his Master of Landscape Architecture degree from Harvard Graduate School of Design, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Alfred University in New York. Ackerman is currently a Doctor of Design candidate at Florida International University, College of Communication, Architecture, + The Arts.
Ackerman’s research is focused on computational simulation and visualization of landscape ecology employing information-driven environmental modeling. He believes that the complexity of designing living systems presents research and design challenges that necessitate powerful and flexible digital tools. His research occurs through SUNY ESF’s Carbon and Applied Forest Research Institute (CAFRI); Michigan State University’s Forest Carbon and Climate Program (FCCP); as well as the U.S National Park Service and the Olmsted Center for Landscape Preservation. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals as well as in Landscape Architecture Magazine.
