https://gregg.arts.ncsu.edu/programs/Professor Sam Bowker will appear live via video from Australia to decode the meanings embedded in the Egyptian Tent currently on display at the Gregg Museum of Art & Design. The Egyptian master tentmakers who stitched the tent together a century ago interpreted the ancient past for international visitors but told another story for their Egyptian audiences. The world expert on Egyptian appliqué, Bowker will compare the tent at the Gregg with the tiny handful of other rare Egyptian tents preserved in museums worldwide. Bowker is the senior lecturer in art history and visual culture and the sub dean of graduate studies at Charles Sturt University in Australia.
The webinar will include a Q&A session.
