Making Space is an NC State University Libraries event series that features underrepresented groups in science and technology. Join us for a talk featuring River Takada-Capel. Takada-Capel is a Durham-based mixed media and fiber artist, instructor and homemaker who teaches sewing and textile classes. Takada-Capel has taught courses for the Scrap Exchange, The ArtsCenter, the North Carolina Museum of Art, Freeman’s Creative, NC State Craft Center, community colleges and many other organizations. Takada-Capel continues to share her passion for all things textile and sewing through her brand, RIVTAK, where you can purchase a variety of textile and art materials in addition to finding out more information via her blog and workshops.

In this talk, Takada-Capel will discuss her profession as an artist and creator and her informative practice of using textiles as a mindful social practice that speaks to both her background and her understanding of the relationship we have with our clothes.
