NC State LIVE has a rich history of presenting choreographers who are dedicated to embracing audiences with visceral, community-focused work. David Dorfman is one of these change-making choreographers. He has shaped the contemporary dance field with his “full throttle, big-hearted” works. Dorfman’s newest piece (A)Way Out of My Body was created as he was caring for his ailing parents. It is an offering of healing, a journey through life’s inevitable pain to find our capacity for joy. Dorfman joins his company on stage in a search for personal “truths” among fantastical sensations with mesmerizing lighting and visual design by the heralded theatremaker Andrew Schneider. The company’s four-person house band, led by superb songwriter Elizabeth DeLise, is seen and heard throughout as though beckoning us into the otherworldly-ness of our dreams, desires, our every day and the new worlds awaiting us.

The performance will be followed by a post-show talk with the artists.
