Join Allison Newhart, vice chancellor and general counsel at NC State University, for "Affirmative Action: How Will it Affect the Arts?" In June 2023, the United States Supreme Court issued a significant decision prohibiting the consideration of race in college admissions decisions. This session will begin with a background description of the case. In this session, we will also explore the impacts on various aspects unique to the arts, such as in auditions and performances. We will also consider any overlap into concepts such as cultural appropriation and heritage.
