How does philosophy conceptualize academic freedom? How can philosophical discourse shed light on our animating questions of freedom in teaching and research? Please join NC State and Duke universities for a conversation with Richard Amesbury of Arizona State University, Ásta Kristjana Sveinsdóttir of Duke University and Anton Ford of the University of Chicago.

This event is part of Sharing Ground, a joint NC State–Duke seminar exploring how the humanities can deepen our understanding of academic freedom and the university’s role in sustaining democratic life. Bringing together scholars, students and academic leaders, the seminar asks how humanistic inquiry can foster principled disagreement and a more vibrant culture of free inquiry on campus.
