The Gregg Museum of Art & Design will host a screening and a discussion of Freeman Vines, a short documentary about North Carolina artist and guitar maker Freeman Vines. He is best known for his hand-carved guitar creations, many of which were constructed from the tree used in the 1930 lynching of Oliver Moore.

Following the viewing, Vines' sister, Alice Vines, and the documentary's directors, Andre Robert Lee and Tim Kirkman, will discuss the complicated and painful crossroads between sacred art and history.

After the discussion, Nishani Frazier, director of public history at NC State, will serve as moderator as participants view one of Freeman's most striking works, The Skull Guitar, which is currently on exhibition at the Gregg.
