About this Event
941 Main Campus Dr., Raleigh, NC
https://crafts.arts.ncsu.edu/events-and-exhibitions/events/Monica Jane Frisell and Adam Scher travel the country collecting audio stories and images for their ongoing project, Portraits of US. Their “office” – the Nomadic Photo Ark – is a converted cargo trailer equipped with a photo darkroom. Frisell shoots photographs of people on 8x10 film with her Kodak Master field camera, then they process and print the black and white images in their rolling studio.
The Ark will be in residence at NC State, Jan. 31 through Feb. 10, presented by the Crafts Center. Students, campus partners, and members of the Raleigh community are invited to participate at the Corner on Centennial Campus (941 Main Campus Dr.), Wednesday, Feb. 1 through Saturday, Feb. 4, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can see (and hear) examples of photos and stories collected through Frisell and Scher’s travels throughout the United States. The residency will conclude with a pop-up exhibition at Raleigh Founded on Centennial Campus (1017 Main Campus Dr.) on Friday, Feb. 10, 5 to 7 p.m.
UPDATE: We’ve learned you’ll have one last chance on Monday, Feb. 6 to get a photo taken with a cool vintage camera. The photographer will be roaming Centennial Campus, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (After all, their name DOES say they are nomadic.) Look for the crew from the Corner to Hunt Library, the Oval, Engineering II, and Textiles.
