NC State alumnus David Washington will lead a discussion about his graphic novel Black Defender, which tells the story of  Dr. Chris Withers, a successful entrepreneur and special forces veteran who learns that he needs to become a hero to save his city, and that heroes seek justice, not vengeance. “Washington succeeds in revising the classic superhero formula to highlight inequities in the justice system," according to a review by Kirkus Reviews.

Washington's talk is part of Read Smart, a series of informal book discussions. The series is a collaboration between NC State University Libraries and Wake County Public Libraries.
