Join the Gregg Museum of Art & Design to learn about the special exhibition Crafting Sanctuaries: Black Spaces of the Great Depression South with the curator Tamir Williams. Crafting Sanctuaries expands the popular visual memory of the Great Depression by highlighting rarely seen Farm Security Administration images of rural Black southerners and their spatial worlds during the 1930s and 1940s. Williams will share a short overview of the exhibition. A conversation with NC State faculty members Ajamu Dillahunt-Holloway, an assistant professor of African American history and public history, and Nishani Frazier, a professor of history and director of public history, and North Carolina Poet Laureate Jaki Shelton Green will follow the overview.

The exhibition will be on display at the Gregg from Aug. 6, 2026, to  Jan. 16, 2027.
