Join the Diverse Rotations Improve Valuable Ecosystem Services (D.R.I.V.E.S.) Project for a special seminar titled Crop Rotational Diversity DRIVES Economic Stability From Ecological Intensification. You can attend the seminar virtually via Zoom or in person at Williams Hall. The presenters will be:

  • Kathryn White, a soil scientist in the Agroecology Lab at NC State. White's research investigates the effects of agricultural management and rotational diversity on soil organic matter, soil health and nutrient availability.
  • Katherine Muller, an agroecologist and data scientist in the Agroecology Lab. Muller enjoys collaborating on a broad range of topics in sustainability science. With D.R.I.V.E.S., she leads database design, data workflows and Bayesian statistical analysis.

The D.R.I.V.E.S. project integrates data on crop production, soil health, agronomic management and weather from long-term cropping systems experiments throughout North America. The project's research quantifies how diverse rotations mitigate risks from adverse weather by limiting critical period exposure, improving soil organic matter and stabilizing cropping system economic performance for producers. Data for 18 sites is available on the D.R.I.V.E.S. website. The project is actively expanding the database to include more sites and variables.
