How has China emerged as a global power? What forces shaped its international behavior in the past, what forces are shaping its behavior now, and what forces will possibly shape its behavior in the future? Professor Suisheng Zhao’s talk will attempt to find answers to these questions based on research from his new book. The book develops a leadership-centered framework to weave together complex events, processes and players and provide a historically in-depth, conceptually comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of Chinese foreign policy transitions since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Zhao's talk is titled "The Dragon Roars Back: China’s Foreign Policy Under Xi Jinping."

Zhao is a professor and director of the Center for China-U.S. Cooperation at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver.
