About this Event
Add to calendarPlease join the Department of Performing Arts and Technology for The Lunchbox Series, 45-minute virtual conversations with artists and thinkers in the vast world of dance.
Join author Monica West and choreographer Tara Mullins for "The Creative Process: A Novel as an Inspiration for Choreography." West and Mullins will discuss how West’s debut novel, Revival Season, inspired Mullins to create a solo dance. Last June, Mullins stumbled upon Revival Season in her local library and could not put it down. The novel explores faith, family, loyalty and image through complicated characters set in a Southern Black evangelical community.
The solo, which will premiere in the State Dance Company Concert on April 6 and 7, features dancer Tiana Smith, who will embody the main character Miriam Horton. West, Mullins and Smith will discuss the book and the process for creating the solo that grew from its brilliant pages. Reading the book in advance is recommended but not required.
The discussion will take place via Zoom. Registration is required. Registrants will receive a Zoom link that will give them access to the discussion.
