The Global Training Initiative facilitates the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's Story Circles for NC State students. Participants will be guided through the Story Circle protocol to build skills in tolerance, empathy, critical thinking and listening for understanding.

Story Circles is a structured yet flexible methodology for developing intercultural competencies in a variety of contexts, both formal and informal, and is presented in the Manual for Developing Intercultural Competencies. Piloted in five countries — Thailand, Costa Rica, Zimbabwe, Austria and Tunisia — by UNESCO, the methodology has proven to be effective with a variety of issues - from the social inclusion of migrants to the dialogue among indigenous peoples.
