In 1995, Tarboro attorney Marvin V. Horton uncovered a plan by the Iowa Beef Processors to locate a giant hog slaughterhouse in the predominantly Black community of Kingsboro. Concerned residents formed the Citizens for Responsible Zoning and organized a mass effort to stop IBP, which forced Edgecombe County Commissioners to vote down the IBP bid. We Can Do Better, by filmmaker Frederick Murphy, tells this story.

Ajamu Dillahunt-Holloway, assistant professor of history, and Jim Wrenn, historical consultant for We Can Do Better, will moderate a panel discussion about the film. The panelists will be members of Citizens for Responsible Zoning: Melvin Ray Hart, Ruby B. Horne, David W. Batts Sr. and Marvin V. Horton.
