Sharks are some of the most fascinating, most ecologically important, most threatened and most misunderstood animals on Earth. The truth is that sharks are not a danger to us — they're in danger from us. In this event, marine conservation biologist David Shiffman will talk about his new book, Why Sharks Matter, and explain why it's crucial that we overcome our misconceptions and rise above cinematic jump scares to embrace sharks as the imperiled and elegant ocean guardians they really are.

Shiffman will be joined by NC State instructor and undergraduate research mentor Carol Price, who will talk about student shark research showcased in the immersive exhibit Swimming With Sharks.

The event hosts will be Ben Regester, a senior marine science and environmental education student, and Ben Rinehart, a junior marine science student.

You can attend this event in person at D.H. Hill Jr. Library or watch a livestream on YouTube.
