https://gregg.arts.ncsu.edu/exhibitions/words-power/Celebrate the opening of WORDS = POWER at the Gregg Museum of Art & Design. Ariel Seay-Howard will read an original poem accompanied by acoustic guitar, and Master of Fine Arts students from the Creative Writing program in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences will participate in short readings.
The exhibition features the words of North Carolina’s poet laureate, Jaki Shelton Green, and collaborative artworks created by Crafts Center visual artists Carol Fountain Nix and Katy Walls. WORDS = POWER includes NC State’s African American Cultural Center’s I AM: Ascension portrait series. The event will also feature first-year graduate student poets and Assistant Professor Meg Day from the Master of Fine Arts Creative Writing program.
This exhibition brings to life the creative expression of words through various art forms, including painting, collage, sculpture, printmaking, books and a series of live spoken word events. WORDS = POWER invites museum visitors to explore how art conveys human experiences, struggles and successes, ultimately fostering community resilience and unity.
WORDS = POWER is co-curated by Nix, who is director of the Crafts Center, and Sara Segerlin, director of the Gregg Museum.
