Earth’s climate is warming, storms are becoming more extreme, and the ocean is rising. While this reality has only recently begun to sink into the popular imagination, films have been depicting potential dystopian outcomes of climate change for a long time. Join climate change experts Deja Perkins, Martha Reiskind and Rebecca Ward and ecocinema professor Jorge Marí for a discussion about the science behind depictions of climate change in popular movies. We’ll look at these films in light of recent knowledge and consider actions we can take to achieve a more hopeful future for humans, animals and plants alike.

Join us before the event for a pop-up library of climate change-themed fiction and nonfiction available for checkout.

This event is part of the (Y)Our Health in the Movies series and is co-sponsored by the Global One Health Academy and Wicked Problems, Wolfpack Solutions. NC State’s Global One Health Academy supports interdisciplinary approaches to finding climate change solutions and addressing climate change-related health disparities.
