Hunt Jr. LibraryJoin the NC State University Libraries for a celebration of the work of NC State faculty and alumni whose design practices have led them into the femtech industry. This event will highlight how human-centered design and emerging technologies are being applied to menstrual care, pelvic health, post-mastectomy support and overall well-being. Speakers will offer short lightning talks on their projects, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Kelly Umstead, associate professor of industrial design. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view prototypes and engage directly with the designers behind the work.

The panelists are:

• Paula León is an industrial design graduate and medical device designer whose work with Blean reimagines menstrual cup care through inclusive, sustainable design to make hygiene easier and more empowering.
• Jabria Oliver is a recent NC State Master of Industrial Design graduate and founder of Off the Rag, a mission-driven initiative eliminating period poverty with innovative menstrual care solutions that protect dignity and basic needs.
• Abby Scheer is a designer who led the early design and development of Cervu Health, an innovative pelvic health system created through human-centered design and clinical insight.
• Yuanqing “Ching” Tian, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of industrial design whose research focuses on custom-fit wearable product design using 3D scanning, parametric design and digital fabrication to enhance well-being.
• Kelly Umstead is an associate professor of industrial design at NC State University whose work focuses on human-centered design, health and well-being and mentoring students translating design research into real-world impact.

Hunt Jr. LibraryThe Global Film Series will present a screening of Okko’s Inn.

After losing her parents in a car accident, Okko goes to live in the countryside with her grandmother, who runs a traditional Japanese inn built on top of an ancient spring said to have healing waters. While she goes about her chores and prepares to become the inn’s next caretaker, Okko discovers some spirits live there that only she can see — not scary ones but welcoming ghosts who keep her company, play games and help her navigate her new environment. The inn’s motto is that it welcomes all and will reject none, and this is soon put to the test as a string of new guests challenge Okko’s ability to be a gracious host. But ultimately, Okko discovers that dedicating herself to others becomes the key to taking care of herself.

The film's runtime is 1 hour, 34 minutes. The movie is in Japanese with English subtitles.

The Global Film Series is a collaboration between the NC State University Libraries and NC State’s Office of Global Engagement. This screening is in partnership with NC State’s Women’s Center in celebration of Women’s History Month.

Dr. Haddy Njie, associate teaching professor in International Studies at NC State, will introduce the film.

Hunt Jr. LibraryDELTA-Con, now in its ninth year, is NC State’s annual unconference that brings together attendees from NC State University and local higher education institutions. Faculty, staff and teaching assistants are welcome to attend this discussion-based event to share their insights into higher education. DELTA-Con is a great way for you to network with your peers and discover the latest in academic technology and innovation.

How Does DELTA-Con Work?

As a participant, you will create sessions collaboratively with other attendees. After registering, you can add your ideas to a big board of possible topics that we will continue building at DELTA-Con. On the day of the event, we will finalize a schedule based on participant interest. Each session will then be facilitated by a DELTA staff member but led by the participants in the room, who will share best practices, discuss challenges, work through ideas and more. We will also keep collaborative notes so you have a takeaway from each session.
